But many abilities tack disappointingly early on. The defibrillating shock of unlocking a brand new training method gets painfully infrequent. I know from experience that it only gets worse when abilities reach the 90s, where one degree can take dozens of hours of the identical activity. The EXP bar keeps getting bigger but there’s nothing new to do in sight, and that’s really RS gold where leveling skills begins to get dull.
I found the crafting abilities especially dull. To train Herblore, for example, you withdraw inventory following inventory of herbs and water out of your storage, you then simply watch your personality combine them. It is a slow process which never meaningfully changes, because unlike laying different traps in Hunter, regardless of what potion you’re making, you’re always doing the same thing. These kinds of abilities are at their worst when you are losing money on the offer.
They feel like a second task you have to pay for. Some other abilities, such as Agility, feel incongruous. Agility enables you to access time-saving shortcuts round the world, however you train it by running circles round rote obstacle courses. Agility is dynamic and beneficial in activity, but training it is a chore that’s totally divorced from what you actually use the skill for.
I want to see more abilities follow the model of my favorite skill, Slayer, that is all about killing creatures assigned by Slayer masters. Slayer makes training your battle skills more enjoyable by taking you around Runescape, also because it enables you to fight a lot of distinct creatures, you receive item drops that fuel an assortment of non-combat skills–gems for buy Runescape gold, seeds for Farming, alloy bars for Smithing.
I would really like to see that sort of diversity come to skills such as Herblore and Agility, and I’d like to see more skills interact with other skills, like the way I coached Woodcutting while leveling Hunter. Efficiency is enjoyable, and Runescape is at its best when you are not stuck doing something.
